The recent protests caused extensive damage to the Department of Transport’s main office, destroying the central server and related equipment.

This disruption has resulted in the removal of the driving license feature from the Nagarik app, affecting both citizens and authorities.

The central server, which stored all transport-related records, was located at the Min Bhawan office in New Baneshwor, Kathmandu. With its destruction, the ‘EDLVRS System’ (Electronic Driving License and Vehicle Registration System) has become non-functional across transport offices nationwide, forcing a temporary suspension of services until further notice.

As a result, the Nagarik app’s license feature is currently unavailable, and the Ministry has temporarily paused the issuance of new driving licenses and renewals while recovery and restoration efforts are underway.

Previously, the app allowed users to access their driving licenses digitally, while traffic police could verify licenses through QR codes and review records of traffic violations or unpaid fines, making it an important tool for both convenience and enforcement.
